Set in County Cork, The Young Offenders follows the journey of Jock and Conor as they cycle to West Cork on stolen bicycles to gain possession of a missing bail of cocaine worth 7 million euros.
Chris Walley and Alex Murphy strike gold with this year's hit Cork film The Young Offenders, directed by Peter Foott. With scenes filmed in The English Market, Patrick’s Hill, Bandon Road, Rosscarbery Pier and Three Castle Head, this local movie makes you proud to be from Cork. The viewer is plunged into the scenic mise-en-scène of Cork in sunny summer weather.
Within the first few scenes, you find out that Conor and his friend Jock (the bad influence) don't have much of a future ahead of them because their lack of interest in school - or anything for that matter. Eventually you see past the dopey personalities of the pair and get a glimpse at Jock's alcoholic father and Conor's taunting (yet loving) mother (Hilary Rose).
When the duo find out about a missing bail of cocaine worth 7 million euros, they set off to sunny West Cork for what was predicted as an easy find. The adventure unravels as an absolute disaster, not helped by a guard from back home in ruthless pursuit of them for stealing bikes. However through it all, they make it back (almost) in one piece.
Overall, The Young Offenders will please everyone in the family for its humorous and emotional moments, not to mention its picturesque cinematography. This film is certainly worth a watch.
